In response to the experience of emerging from Covid-19 lockdown, ‘Hope Glimmers’ was commissioned in late spring 2021 by Mayfield Salisbury Parish Church, Edinburgh. 126 bamboo canes were gilded with gold leaf and set into the grass, creating two fan shapes. The temporary installation in the church garden was positioned so it could be viewed from both the pavement and the path. The gold leaf, catching reflected light, alluded to God’s presence and the glimmering of hope.
