Oatcakes were suspended on cotton thread in the sanctuary of Renfield St. Stephen’s Church, Glasgow. Each oatcake was numbered on one side and on the other were written 324 words describing something that people from the church community considered a blessing. Arranged in an 18×18 grid, they slowly turned in the warm air of the sanctuary, revealing and concealing text, giving a kinetic energy to the piece. The making of the installation was open to the public and viewers became participants in the creative process. The installation then became an integral part of the church’s Harvest Thanksgiving liturgy.
