Made in response to Covid-19 and the resulting struggles of the lockdown months, ‘Scented Lament’ was exhibited for two days as a peripatetic, pop-up artwork on the streets of Glasgow and then sited as a temporary installation in the garden of Langside Parish Church. The large-scale wreath was created out of sprigs of rosemary donated by individuals, communities and institutions throughout Scotland and beyond. ‘Scented Lament’ symbolised our coming together as a heartsore community and, with quietness and stillness, offered a public declaration of collected griefs and losses, a visual expression of our souls’ unspoken laments.
